Branches Of Being: The Nervous System & The Tree Of Life
We are not separate from nature; we are nature. And so it is that everything is within us.
Do you see the similarities between the nervous system and that of a tree?
The nervous system branches out in exactly the same way. This is not by accident, but by design. Nature’s patterns repeat in us, revealing a shared intelligence and a profound connection to all living things. This sacred architecture speaks of a deeper wisdom in nature. It is a silent code we share.
In both tree and human form it is not random, but a reflection of our unity with all of life.
If you let your vivid imagination run away with you, can you see that we are the tree?
From a mystical perspective, when the nervous system is ignited; lit up like fire and fully activated, it becomes a gateway to higher states of consciousness. In this awakened state, the nervous system is no longer just a tool for survival but a channel for transcendence, intuition, and profound inner wisdom.
Just like trees, we begin in the dark. A seed in the earth or a baby in the womb; with nurturing and a felt sense of safety, the nervous system begins to soften. It starts to rewire itself for connection, regulation, and ease. Like all living things we take shape in response to our environment. With the right conditions, space, care and consistency we grow in resilience and our capacity to adapt expands.
Humans, similar to trees, meet in the heart space.
This is a bridge where the invisible flows into form. It is the place where intuition, breath and being come together.
Trees grow in two directions down into the earth and up towards the cosmos.
Their roots ground them in the soil, while their branches stretch towards the sky.
They too have sacred spirals of energy moving throughout them. This mirrors the same rhythm of energy in our nervous system, which is both; grounding and expanding, stabilizing and reaching.
When a tree balances its masculine and feminine energies, its structure and its flow, these forces can meet in the centre, allowing it to expand, blossom and bear fruit. Similarly, in our own nervous systems, when the sympathetic (activation) and parasympathetic (rest and restore) branches of the nervous system are in harmony, we return to a regulated heart centred state. From here, we can thrive, create and connect with love rather than survival.
The tree does not rush. It does not force itself into bloom. It responds to the seasons, trusting the wisdom of timing.
In the same way, we must honour our own inner rhythms. When our nervous system is supported and balanced, we become more like the tree; deeply rooted, fully present, and open to the unfolding of life.
