CACAO LOVE: Spirit Friend
Updated: Aug 6
To me, cacao is more than a plant. It isn't here to make us more spiritual. It is a gift from the Earth that gently calls us back into the body, so we can remember the simple joy of being alive.
The heart's magnetic field is the strongest rhythmic field produced by the human body. It not only envelops every cell of the body, but also extends beyond us into the space around us. For me, this is one of the reasons cacao feels like such a powerful heart medicine. It gently invites us back to the centre of our being.
I often think of the heart as the meeting place between earth and sky. If we imagine the body as a cross, the heart rests perfectly at its centre.
To me, this is the Rainbow Bridge.
The heart reminds us that we are not here to escape our humanity, but to embody it. We are both earthly and spiritual beings, and it is through the heart that these two worlds meet. Cacao gently brings us back to this centre, inviting us to live with greater love, presence and connection.
The magic of cacao isn't that it takes us somewhere else it is that it brings us home. It brings us back into the body, where our human experience unfolds. Rather than searching outside ourselves, cacao gently invites us to become fully present with what is here.
Cacao isn't here to make us more spiritual. It is a gift from the Earth that gently calls us back into the body, so we can remember the simple joy of being alive. In a world that often encourages us to look outside ourselves for answers, cacao reminds us that the deepest wisdom is found by fully arriving here.
If you have drifted off into the cosmos, cacao can help bring you back to earth. If life has left you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected or untethered, it can gently guide you back to the present moment. And if you are already feeling grounded and connected, cacao still has a beautiful way of revealing something new. It reminds us that the greatest wisdom often isn't found by searching harder, but by listening more deeply.
Cacao is soft and gentle, and unlike many other plant medicines, it requires us to truly tune in to hear the whispers of wisdom. In my experience, it is often through simplicity that the most powerful transformations happen. Cacao doesn't tell us what to do. Instead, it creates the space for us to hear what our own heart has been trying to say all along.
Nature provides us with everything that we need. We know that spending time in nature can nourish the mind, body and spirit. Cacao comes from a tree that is not only beautiful but incredibly generous, providing flowers, fruit and medicine. I believe plants hold an incredible wisdom, and when we approach them with respect and humility, they have much to teach us.
To me, cacao carries the qualities of joy, connection and creativity. It allows us to feel, while gently holding us through the experience. Sometimes it feels like a teacher. Sometimes a trusted friend. Sometimes a gentle nudge in the right direction. And sometimes simply a warm embrace that reminds us of the innocence we have forgotten.
I truly believe one of the greatest gifts the Earth has ever offered us is cacao.
Cacao has held me through my darkest days. It has sat with me in grief, uncertainty and moments when I felt completely lost. When I couldn't find the answers I was searching for, cacao remained a constant companion. It has reminded me to keep coming back to myself, again and again.
The more time I spend in relationship with this remarkable plant, the deeper my respect and gratitude continue to grow. It is because of this relationship that I feel honoured to share ceremonial cacao with others.
Cacao meets you where you are, today.
Every experience is different. It is shaped by the people you share the space with, the energy of the day, your own intention and where you are in your life. No two ceremonies are ever the same because no two people are ever the same.
I am forever grateful to the plant kingdom, to the Indigenous wisdom keepers who have honoured cacao for thousands of years, and to Cacao Mama for sharing her knowledge and teaching me how to approach this beautiful plant with respect and reverence.
I look forward to sharing cacao with you.
